Abstract:To improve the efficiency of a doctor-patient conversation ways are devised to give the patients the most important information before their first meeting with the doctor. Subsequently, the ‘Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences’ (NDORMS) at the University of Oxford focuses on better information transfer to upcoming knee patients through the information application ‘TEPI’ (Technology Enhanced Patient Information). Therefore the development of a prototype has been started to present the most important information regarding to the course of treatment on a tablet device. To meet the information needs of future patients the requirements for TEPI are gathered by topic interviews with knee patients of the ‘Orbis Medical Centre’ in the Netherlands. This revealed that information on the advantages and disadvantages of an anesthesia form is at the top of the list, followed by the pain perception after surgery, the operation process and the course of the operation.
