Abstract: | For people in the age of forty and older with mild to moderate depressive symptoms, an effective self-help intervention exists, named ‘Op verhaal komen’. This self-help book suffers from the phenomenon of non-adherence. Non-adherence is the premature termination from an intervention and/or failure to implement the intervention as intended. Within the intervention ‘Op verhaal komen’ this study investigated the differences between adherent and non-adherent participants in terms of socio-demographic data (age, gender and education level), level of depression and growth motivation to obtain more insight in non-adherence. The percentage of non-adherent participants was 43.1% of a total of 58 participants. Furthermore, no significant differences were found between adherent and non-adherent participants on the investigated characteristics. It can be concluded that for the adherence of the self-help intervention ‘Op verhaal komen’ it doesn’t matter what the age, gender, education, degree of depression or growth motivation (intrinsic or extrinsic) of the participant is. |
