Abstract:The main goal of this study was to examine the reliability and validity of the Dutch Resilience Scale among ethnic minority and low socioeconomic status groups. Resilience is an important contributing factor to current socioecomic health differences in the Netherlands. The intervention ‘Pathmos/Stevensfenne Doen!’ tries to close this gap between rich and poor. Therefore, the main focus of the project was enhancing resilience under participants. Before starting the project, participants filled out the Dutch Resilience Scale. The scale consists of a 17-item ‘Personal Competence’ subscale and an 8-item ‘Acceptance of Self and Life’ subscale for a total of 25 items. To determine the effects of resilience on health, it has to be measured in a reliable and valid way. The results show that the the scale is reliable and valid. However, factor analysis did not show a two-factor model like other studies did. It seems that the scale in it’s entirely is appropiate to measure resilience among the research group on a reliable and valid way. However, to generalize these results to the target group ‘ethnic minority and low socioeconomic status groups’ more extensive research is needed.
