Abstract: | In the past lie detection research has not taken into account the intention behind lies. In this study, using skin conductance, the intent to deceive was investigated. The intent to deceive was compared with actual deception and truth telling. For the first time in research this study analysed the intention to deceive in connection with dual tasks. In addition to the dual task this study also integrated a prospective task to control for general anticipation effects that occur with intention. The results showed that psycho physiological responses on the intention to deceive were similar with those responses on telling the truth. Furthermore this study indicates that dual tasks can help to enhance the difference of EDA between lie and truth. In future research it would be useful to analyze which of the conceptualizations of intent is the most appropriate. Furthermore it could be investigated in how far it is useful to control for anticipative effects. |
