Abstract: | This paper is a Bachelor Thesis on the main research question “How is regional innovation in cross-border regions affected by informal factor to cross-border cooperation?” This main research question is complemented by sub-research questions, which are guiding the empirical part of the thesis. The questions are explained in greater detail in section three on research questions and methodology. In a first step the theoretical framework for the analysis is put up in section two of the thesis. This framework is not only meant to provide necessary guidance for the analysis but also information on the state of the art of research in the area of cross-border cooperation for regional innovation. In the empirical part of this thesis two examples of regions in which cross-border cooperation and regional innovation is at face value very good are analyzed with regard to the informal factors (cultural, linguistic, social, educational and economic diversity) that are existing in the regions and the amount of innovation that is produced there. The analysis of the regions will in the end enable the research to draw conclusions about the extent to which regional innovation in cross-border regions is affected by cross-border cooperation and give recommendations for future research in this area and policies initiatives in the area of cross-border cooperation and regional innovation. |
