Abstract: | Modern days machining centers are extremely sophisticated machines. Five axis movement and CNC-control allow the production of complicated parts with very limited operator time needed. Most recent machines even have the capability to exchange their own work pieces, allowing them to virtually run in the dark. Big improvements can still be made in the application of cutting fluids. In this report a mechanism is designed to automatically aim the fluid nozzles towards the workpiece and an experiment is carried out to determine the importance of accurate liquid aim. As a separate project a conceptual solution is derived to a problem in large diameter ring drilling. Because of the sheer size of this process a lot of swarf builds up inside the machining center causing high cleaning costs and reduced efficiency. |
