Abstract:Purpose With this study we examined whether there are age related differences in the information search behaviour of people on shale gas extraction. During this research we want to determine whether the psychological construct involvement, social norm and self-efficacy combined with age would affect the information search behaviour. Method We developed an online questionnaire in the shape of a hard copy that has been distributed at random. 90 respondents have completed this questionnaire and this data has been stored in a database. Results There weren't any significant age-related differences found in the information search behaviour of people on shale gas extraction. However, results showed that older people use the radio and television significantly more as a source of information compared to younger people. Also it has been shown that a significant linear relationship exist between the variables engagement, social norm and the intention to search for information on shale gas extraction for both groups. Conclusion The constructs self-efficacy, information content and age have no added value when it comes to the intention of finding information about shale gas extraction.
