Abstract: | In the course of this Bachelor thesis it shall be analysed how European cultural identity is mediated in European audio-visual space to the audience. Until now focus of research mainly has been on the impact media, mostly national, has on identity construction. Therefore, the pan-European cultural channel Arte shall serve as a representation of the European audio-visual space embedded in a European public sphere. In particular it shall be investigated to what extent Arte does contribute to European identity construction in the European audio-visual space by representing a certain image of European cultural identity? In order to answer the main research question, a qualitative content analysis shall be conducted. For this purpose, data will be derived from the monthly published Arte Magazin, which contains program descriptions and schedules of each month of a year. It is intended to use the program of May 2014, in regard to the European elections assuming that in this month there is a great emphasize on Europe within Arte’s contents. In the course of the analysis, the program will be coded with the use of the software NVivo and subsequently interpreted on the base of the results. |
