Abstract:Usability and persuasiveness contribute to the user-orientation of m-health applications and therefore the use of the application in the longer term. The purpose of this study is to clarify the user orientation of the In-Balanz application (app). The In-Balanz app is a Dutch and English m-health app for breathing therapy. The app is intended for people who deal with symptoms associated with respiratory problems. The user-orientation is measured by testing the functioning and usability of the In-Balanz app by means of a usability test and measuring the persuasiveness by the Perceived Persuasiveness Questionnaire (PPQ). The usability test is completed by ten users of the In-Balanz app. The PPQ is completed by ten users of the In-Balanz app and two experts in the field of persuasiveness. The usability test and the PPQ showed that the In-Balanz app is relatively user oriented but there are a few points that deteriorate the functioning and usability such as registering exercises and symptoms and the preparation of the panic button is too long. Users think the persuasiveness of the In-Balanz app is good and experts think it’s medium. A factor that can improve the persuasiveness is to add the possibility of social support through the In-Balanz app.
