Abstract:The company GMG bv. wants to offer a new bike seat for children aged 3 to 6 years, which can be attached to the frame of both men's and women's bicycles, taking into account different frame sizes and tube diameters. It should be designed in the characteristic and distinctive style of Yepp, to fit with the other products GMG bv. offers. The purpose of the assignment is to design an innovative, safe, easy and comfortable bicycle seat, which is better than the current frame bicycle seats on the market and fits the style of Yepp. This is achieved by performing a number of studies: study (user)requirements of stakeholders in the product design; research on existing GMG bv. products; researching existing 'bicycle seats'; research on various bike frames. From these studies follows the Program of Requirements for product design. In conceptphase are concepts generated. Out of these concepts one is chosen. The chosen concept is further developed and visualized. Finally, an evaluation has been done on the process and recommendations have been made. During the process it appeared that the development of two models, namely a men's and ladies bike model, took too much time. For that reason, the Yepp Together (the name of the seat) was only developed for a men's city bicycle. With a little modification it could also be placed on a ladies city bicycle. The final result (figure 1) is a bike seat consisting of the material EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate), containing a steel frame. This frame is, at the men's bicycle, fixed at two places using an Allen key. The installation is simple and the fixation is hidden by the rest of the seat. This all seems tighter, less 'Heath Robinson' and safer than current products.
