Abstract: | In this thesis, the strategy of a large Dutch retailer is assessed by evaluating the strategy at local stores, using the strategy map as a framework. Stores are categorized in a efficiency/quality matrix, in order to study the differences and similarities between the stores. Many factors and relationships were found, not always congruent with literature and quite different between the different store types. Conclusively, there are many paths to success in retail besides the general strategy. Some stores somewhat defy the general strategy, but generally it pays for stores to follow the general strategy, although size is an important determinant of efficiency. |
