Abstract: | The goal of this bachelor assignment is to mathematically reduce the neuronal dynamics of a microscopic model of several hundreds of Izhikevich neurons so that it may be used to model several thousands of neurons. That requires a mean field reduction and transforms the microscopic model into a macroscopic model. The reduction is done analytically, by means of separation of variables of the differential equations describing the system. By means of this reduction, it is possible to draw conclusions on neuronal behaviour on macroscopic scale. It is shown that the reduction presented works for one type of neuron and that it has to be adapted to work for the other types. An idea is presented on how to go around this problem. A reduced model for a single population of excitatory neurons is derived and shown and a model that also includes inhibitory neurons is built. |
