Abstract:The influence of Smart Grids on the Dutch Electriciy Distribution has been investigated by looking at the DSO. Using the IAD framework of E.Ostrom as a theoretical lens and collecting data by doing literature study and interviews, we made an analysis on how the Smart Grids is likely to change the organization of the grid for the DSO. The Smart Grid Innovation changes the tasks, position and interactions of the DSO. The tasks of the DSO become broader, more complex and will take placeat different levels. The position of the DSO becomes more complex, more powerful and closer to other actors. Lastly, the interactions of the DSO with other actors changes. The cooperation with the government becomes closer in order to adjust the policies to the Smart Grid and to enable the DSO to facilitate the Smart Grid. The interaction with the consumer becomes closer in order to make the Smart Grid work. The interaction of the DSO with ACM (regulator) becomes more free but the ACM remains the regulator who monitors the actvities of the DSO
