Abstract: | This document describes the development of an instruction intended for teaching quantum mechanics to Dutch physics students within upper secondary education, which is necessary because of the implementation of quantum mechanics within the Centraal Eindexamen. This description entails a description of the development process, the design choices and the argumentations thereof and the evaluation approach and the results following from this evaluation. The instruction makes use of several instructional theories, suggestions from studied literature on the topic of quantum mechanics education and the results from the aforementioned evaluation. Furthermore, it is delivered by the medium of qCraft, which is a modification available for the game Minecraft, and therefore the instruction is delivered by game-based learning. Finally, it is intended as a purely conceptual instruction, instead of being experiment oriented or mathematically oriented. The instruction therefore serves as a pretraining for teaching various concepts within quantum mechanics, which can be followed by instruction about experiments conducted within the field of quantum mechanics and finally by instructions about the mathematics behind quantum mechanics. The evaluation is conducted by using qualitative research methods, which resulted in a display of different aspects of the instruction. |
