Abstract: | There are many studies concerning the phenomenon of lying. Especially the motives of people to lie, the amount of lies and the kind of lie that is told, has often been the subject of research. The present study examined whether different status in a workplace affects the inclination to lie. As an employee, is there a difference to tell a lie to your collegue, compared to telling a lie to the boss. To find out, I conducted an online experiment, showing that the urge to tell a lie is bigger when there is a difference in status. This could be explained by jealousy and envy or because they feel less attachment to someone with a different status. Another possibilty would be someone’s personality in relation to telling lies. |
