Abstract: | The goal of my research is to find out how the victims themselves explain the causes and effects of bullying and what strategies they use to deal with it. This research allows girls to tell their stories about how there are and were being bullied by other girls. Two of the research-questions ask about the perception and opinion about the causes and consequences of bullying of the victims. A third research question tries to find a connection between the interpretations of the causes and coping strategies victims use in a bullying situation. Here it is important that the girls answer the questions based on their own experiences. The results may help to gain a better understanding of how girls experience and interpret bullying, so that teachers, parents, caregivers, therapists can better focus on the real needs of the girls. My sample consists of girls older than 12 years who were and are victims of bullying-behavior by other girls were. The data was analyzed with the aid of thematic analysis. The most common causes in the texts were in the "Reaction to deviance" and "social positioning". The most frequently mentioned consequences in the different texts, belonged to the "loss of trust" and "Anxiety Symptoms" categories. In connection with the strategies, no clear conclusion could be drawn if one of the strategies has been used much more than the other. |
