Abstract:The number of juveniles with an addiction has significantly increased in the last couple of years. More and more young people seek help with addiction treatment. An adequate and effective treatment is therefore of great importance. The purpose of this study is to gain more insight into the effects of the youth addiction treatment offered by Tactus for the areas: substance use, physical complaints and substance craving. It is a cross-sectional study consisting of two measurements. A sample of 124 juveniles has been used who have completed the MATE questionnaire at the beginning and at the end of the Tactus addiction treatment. Through the statistic program IBM SPSS Statistics 20 the data obtained from the MATE lists were analyzed. A paired t-test was used to determine whether there are significant differences between the two measurements for the variables: substance use, physical symptoms and substance craving. In this particular study, most respondents indicated cannabis as their primary addictive substance, followed by alcohol and cocaine. The results show that respondents with cannabis as their primary addiction benefit the most from the addiction treatment. These respondents have significantly decreased their substance use, physical complaints and substance craving. It is also found that respondents with alcohol as their primary addiction show a significant decrease in physical complaints and substance craving. Respondents with cocaine as their primary addiction only show a significant decrease in the substance craving.
