Abstract:Batenburg Industriële Elektronica (BIE) wants to control their performance. By means of implementing a performance measurement system they want to gain insight into their organizational performance. By employing a performance measurement system the mission, vision, and strategy of an organization can be in set forth in operational activities, as well as the strategy can be judged. This study is executed in order to assure the successful development of a performance measurement system. The objective of this study was to provide BIE with an advice concerning designing and implementing a performance measurement system, accompanying prerequisites of the development process, as well as the identification of the organization’s critical success factors. Research question and method The research question of this study was “What are the critical success factors of Batenburg Industriële Elektronica and how can they be collected in order to support the development of a performance measurement system?”. A qualitative research design has been applied. Data collection has been executed by means of semi structured interviews and a document analysis. The utilised CSF-method takes care of identifying, analysing, and presenting data in an structured way. Interviews are conducted with managers and key personnel of the organization. In sum, all organizational departments were studied by which a representation of the organization could be constructed. Additionally, a document analyse has been fulfilled in order to identify the mission, vision, and strategy of the organization.
