Abstract: | To handle bottlenecks in palliative care, Palliatief Netwerk Salland decided to use palliative care consultants (pcc’s). The objective was to improve the primary process of palliative care, by having a pcc working as a specialist in a team of generalists (nurses). The network faces the problem that, given the current budget cuts, the role of pcc is under pressure. Because of this, not every pcc is facilitated very well, which can be detrimental to palliative care. Experience also shows that pcc’s present themselves differently in the affiliated healthcare organizations. This difference in presentation could have led to the fact that it is unclear how the role of a pcc is carried out in the organizations and to which changes the implementation of this role could lead in the field of palliative care. If this would be clear, facilitating of the role of a pcc can be supported. For this reason, an evaluation of the role of a pcc is carried out in this study. |
