Abstract: | Work-related stress is a common problem in the Netherlands and this can cause cardiovascular diseases and burn-out. This study focuses on the possibilities of sensortechnology and e-coaching for work-related stress. Using semi-structured interviews, opinions about wearables for work-related stress have been collected from twelve teachers and PHD-students from universities in the Netherlands. The participants expected awareness and insight in the patterns of stress to be the wearable’s primary functions. There was need for an overview of the experienced stress and eventual an alarm when experiencing high stress levels and linkage with medical data. Barriers were found within the data privacy. The participants had concerns about the data storage and it was a barrier if the user of the wearable is not the owner of the data. The research created a broad representation of different views on wearables for work-related stress. Participants seemed to lack knowledge about data storage. Another problem is the ownership of the data, the provider of the wearable is mostly the owner but this is not desired. These issues need to be resolved in order for users to completely accept a wearable for work-related stress. Further research on the factors with a more diverse sample is recommended. |
