Abstract:This study examined the effects of gamification through a comparison of a positive psychology intervention in two forms. The actual literature such as the broaden build theory mentions that positive emotions develops motivation. The developed motivation can be a solution against the big problem of online interventions: adherence. The goal of this study was to figure out if gamification increases motivation and positive emotions and how motivation and positive emotions are related. To reach this goal 75 participants did a part of the non-gamified or gamified intervention and answered some questionnaires. The measurements was based on the Positive negative affect scale and the log data of the intervention which save the amount of words and the amount of exercises. The activity was used as a value for motivation. The results showed no difference between the versions and the activity and between the activity and positive emotions. The difference between the versions and positive emotions was significant. Gamification advanced positive emotions. A longtime measurement and an adaption of the intervention could in future studies be useful to study motivation in more detail.
