Abstract: | Not all data collected today from IoT-applications is fully used, nor exploited. Data generated from IoT-applications, can help companies in their NPD-process, for example the identification of consumers’ needs. This study explains how data generated by smart home devices can help identify consumer needs. A literature review is done in order to draw links between the concept of smart home devices and the identification of consumer needs. These links are then tested through an empirical study, in the form of an expert questionnaire. Main findings of this study are that data generated by smart home devices helps identify consumers’ needs by giving contextual awareness, doing predictive analysis & maintenance and by usage (behavior) tracking. Literature and experts could not agree on whether smart home devices also help identify consumers’ needs by giving product and service feedback. |
