Abstract:This research paper examines the effects of risk perception and self-efficacy on information seeking behaviour in the context of the arrival of a asylum centre. Within this research, selfefficacy and risk perception were the independent variables while the information seeking styles blunting and monitoring were the dependent variables. The data was collected through an online questionnaire (N = 97). The results show that a significant relationship exists between self-efficacy and monitoring as well as between self-efficacy and blunting, the latter is a significant negative relationship. In addition, it appears that risk perception has a significant relationship with monitoring. These results are in agreement with the expectations from the literature. Unexpectedly, age had a significant relationship with monitoring which was not predicted. Why this is the case is within this research and not in others is something for further research to examine.
