| Abstract: | In this research the influence of an experience-text on the attitude of people towards energy extraction and sustainable energy was investigated. Three hypotheses were formulated. The expectation was that there would be a difference in risk perception (hypothesis 1), emotion (hypothesis 2) and attitude (hypothesis 3). An experiment was conducted. The manipulation was an experience text about the gasextraction in Groningen. The data of 90 participants was usable for the analysis. Qualtrics was used to gather the data of the questionnaire. Qualtrics also divided the respondents into two conditions. A chisquared test showed the respondents were equally divided in the conditions concerning age, gender, education and where they live. An independent samples t-test was used to analyse if there was a difference between the two conditions looking at risk perception, emotion and attitude. The results of this analysis were not significant. Therefor the hypotheses should be rejected. Some variables like the chance of being confronted with an earthquake were not taken into account. Future research could consider to take this variable in account. The experience text could also be changed, because the analysis showed that people could not identify themselves with the storyteller. Therefor the experience text was not effective. |
