Abstract:Goal. In this research, the validity of the I-PANAS-SF was investigated in experience sampling for measuring positive emotions in the daily life of students. It was also examined to which extent the Experience Sampling Method captures fluctuations of positive emotions. The baseline data was collected once by digital questionnaire with 35 Dutch and German students to measure the constructs of positive emotions, mental health, emotional wellbeing and anxiety. The second round of data was collected with the Experience sampling application UTSurvey. The mentioned oncepts are measured bythe I-PANAS-SF, the MHC-SF and the STAI-6 daily, and four times a day with a Mood-Map seven days long (N=31). Based on the aggregates per measuring instrument and day correlations were analysed to determine concurrent, convergent and divergent validity of the I-PANAS-SF. It was found that positive emotions are low in the morning and increase constantly untill the evening. There are indications for a good convergent and concurrent validity for the construct of positive emotions. There were no indications found for a good concurrent validity of the construct anxiety, such as the divergent validity of the constructs anxiety and positive emotions. This study shows hat the I-PANAS-SF has a good validity in experience sampling. Partly low correlations are due to widely varying contexts in which the data was collected. Furthermore, this research figured out daily fluctuations of positive emotions in detail.
