Abstract:With excessive usage of plastics in various applications in different fields this report deals with understanding of wear mechanisms in Philips precision trimmers. This internship was aimed at understanding what is available in the scientific world regarding the wear of polymers and how that can be applied in the case of precision trimmer. Finding the causes and solutions of wear problems and to map the parameters that influence the wear in precision trimmer. To have an insight in the relation of materials, load, grease, and the occurrence of wear. Awareness of the limits of power density would greatly help development of drives in an early stage, to balance costs, size, and quality and predict life time. Different causes of wear are discussed and experiments are carried out at Philips to build a comprehensive model to determine wear in the precision trimmer. Results presented are from literature and tests conducted.
