Abstract: | This research tests the possibility to develop a new energy performance label for social care farms. The Dutch Government is stimulating the application of energy efficiency measures to reduce the energy demand in the built environment, which is responsible for about 20% of the total CO2 emissions in the Netherlands. For new residential buildings, there already set policy targets for 2020 and a benchmark to compare different buildings is available. However, for non-residential buildings, like social care farms, there is still much information unknown about the energy performance. It is hard to assess this energy performance of social care farms due to a lack of data. Therefore, social care farms have little urge to improve their energy efficiency. The aim of this research is to provide insight into the sustainability of social care farms by introducing a benchmark for their energy performance. The following research question is formulated to achieve this goal: How can the adoption of sustainable techniques and measures take place in social care farms? |
