Abstract:Natural disasters cause a lot of casualties around the globe. The FOCUS field hospital concept is being developed to improve the quality of healthcare for casualties of natural disasters, with the main focus on decreasing the deployment time of the field hospital. The goal of this project was to develop a 3D visualization that promotes the FOCUS concept in order to attract potential investors. A state of the art research was conducted to broaden the knowledge about field hospitals and the visualization of field hospitals. A design process, focussed on participatory design, was used to develop the visualization. Multiple iterations of different design techniques (concepts, storyboard, prototypes) were used to obtain the requirements and specifications for the visualization. The visualization was then realized and evaluated, taking the obtained requirements and specifications into consideration. The visualization details different aspects of the FOCUS field hospital concept, namely: the situation, preparation, deployment, aftermath and maintenance. The deployment aspect of the visualization, including the expansion of the containers, was displayed using a 3D animation, while static images were used for the other aspects. The client was satisfied and enthusiastic about the created visualization and believed, that the visualization would be able to successfully introduce and explain he FOCUS concept to a broad range of viewers.
