Abstract: | This thesis is centred on the transportation system for elderly and people with disabilities in the southeast area Drenthe, The Netherlands. Since the beginning of 2014, the municipalities of Borger-Odoorn, Coevorden and Emmen (BOCE) have been joining forces to put effort into improving the transportation system of elderly and people with disabilities. We assess in which way and to what degree the efficiency of transport can be improved by shifting transportation requests from the passengers to the organizations that these passengers visit. To classify potential organizations, we first construct a top 50 of organizations in terms of the amount of trips and kilometres linked to their locations. In order to do so, we propose a method to solve the geocoding problem, i.e., various notations in data refer to the same address. This method can easily be adapted to fit transport data from other geographic areas. |
