Abstract: | This study investigates the role of practice and self-regulated learning (SRL) and their effect on task performance in Microsoft Word (MW). Many studies prove the positive effect of demonstration based training (DBT) for learning. However, not much research is conducted over the role of practice and SRL in DBT. In this study, students of a high school (N = 55) were divided into two groups. One group watched step by step a video tutorial and then solved a task in MW until all videos and tasks were done (blocked practice). The other group watched all videos first and then worked on all the tasks in MW (random practice). Both groups filled in a questionnaire beforehand over SRL. The results suggest that blocked practice is significantly better than random practice for task performance during training Instead, SRL had no significant effect on task performance. Restrictions of this study and recommendations for future research were mentioned. |
