Abstract: | This research includes the identification of core competences in a large logistics company, including an assessment of their current value. It includes a thorough literature review of the core competence concept, including theory on ‘identification’ and information on the European logistics sector. This was used to form a structured methodology to identify the current core competences of the case organisation. It consisted of three phases; recognition of resources and skills, design of competences, and identification of core competences. For the final phase, an identification assessment model has been applied in a workshop-format. The results have indicated that the case organisation currently possesses three core competences. This research contributes to science by presenting an literature review, as well as an methodology, which can be used by academics that want to study the core competence concept. It also proposes interesting suggestions for further research are proposed at the end of this thesis. |
