Abstract:This paper proposes alternative methods for levelling the workload at the part feeding system at the automotive industry. The workload is balanced by postponing replenishments from periods with a high workload to periods with a low workload. This method is applied on a Kanban system with cyclical replenishments. Furthermore, this paper proposes two Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) models for allocating inventory locations to different supplying vehicles. The routing of these vehicles is incorporated in these MIP-models. The capacity utilisation of the part feeding system is improved by the proposed allocation.
