Abstract:This research takes place in the MDL department of Deventer Ziekenhuis and aims to reduce the access time and waiting time for endoscopies. The current access time and waiting time for endoscopies are respectively 7 and 5 weeks. Which is above the norms set by the government. Currently, there is a lack in capacity for intake patients resulting in an increasing access time. Furthermore, blocks are cancelled due to holidays of doctors which results in high access and waiting time for endoscopies. In Phase 1, we use networks of queues to revise the consultation block, such that the offered capacity can meet the patient demand. In Phase 2, we use mixed integer programming to derive guidelines for the scheduling of weekly number of consultation and endoscopy blocks in order to cope with unavailability of doctors. Furthermore, we develop new scheduling for NS-patients that dynamically allocated the total number of NS-patients over the weeks. DES shows that the access time can be reduced from an average of 7 weeks to 2.17 weeks. The waiting time for endoscopies can be reduced from an average of 5 weeks to 1.87 weeks.
