Abstract:
This study examined the relationship between using character strengths as well as the type of character strengths and wellbeing in patients with rheumatic disease. A sample of 39 participants filled in an online cross-sectional questionnaire about character strengths, using character strengths, wellbeing and quality of life. Univariate tests like correlations, t-tests and ANOVAs were conducted. The results of the study show that the participants frequently used their strengths and scored high on mental health. Furthermore using character strengths more frequently was positively correlated with wellbeing (r=.579), especially psychological wellbeing (r=.595). Character strengths such as emotional and interpersonal strengths highly correlate with psychological wellbeing. From the results suggest that character strengths are important for mental wellbeing of patients with rheumatic disease. This knowledge can be used for patients with problems in using character strengths or poor wellbeing.
