Abstract: | Company X wants to combine their 5L production line and their 10L production line, in order to increase the throughput of both the 5L cans and the 10L cans. This thesis answers the question: "How can the throughput of the combined production line be maximized while taking into account the use of resources?". After having collected a lot of information about production line optimization methodologies (the Theory of Constraints, for example) and production line optimization techniques (buffering and the V-curve principle, for example), a simulation model of the production line was created. In the simulation model, experiments with the production line optimization techniques have been conducted, in order to maximize the throughput of the combined production line, while taking into account the use of resources. |
