Delay compensation in mobile face tracking

Abstract:
Facial landmark localization is not possible in real-time using only facial landmark detectors. A tracker can be used to follow the landmarks in real-time. When a tracker is used the computation time of the landmark detector still has an influence on the results of the tracker since it will use older data. In this paper a method is proposed to handle this delay that is created by the detector. A buffer will be used to store images during the detection time, which will then be used by a tracking algorithm to catch up with the real-time incoming frames. An experiment has been performed to compare the performance of this method with other methods. The proposed method does outperform the other methods in some occasions.
