Abstract:Damen Holding B.V is a company which is good at incrementally innovating its products. Currently, they increasingly see the need to be able to innovate radically in order to stay ahead of competition. Therefore, this thesis research focused on identifying which critical success factors for radical innovation are most important for Damen Holding B.V. Thereafter it explored which performance metrics are effective in stimulating these critical success factors. In the research a mix method approach is used to find answers to the proposed questions. A questionnaire ranks factors and several interviews triangulate findings and explore possible metrics. The main finding is that a well-defined technology vision has the highest impact on the radical innovation capability of Damen. Top management should define such a vision which creates the opportunity for alignments and managers have to receive limited autonomy. Further, it is necessary install a process approach for radical innovation, which might be counterintuitively, and special attention is needed towards the discovery phase of this process. Collaborations internally as well as externally enhance the potential to radically innovate. In the metrics exploration several have been identified such as, an idea funnel metric, sales number metric, or survey metrics.
