Abstract: | This study tries to get a better understanding of the troublesome commercialization phase of MedTech start-ups that focus on exploiting rather new and innovative medical devices. The primary focus of this study is to find factors that could possibly affect the commercialization phase from the point of CE-marking (regulatory approval) up until operational cashflow break-even (commercial success). To answer this research question, an extensive systematic literature review on the topic of MedTech commercialization was conducted. Based on this systematic literature review, several propositions were initiated that form the backbone of this research. These propositions were subsequently used as a guideline for a total of 10 semi-structured interviews with investment & healthcare(-related) professionals. Finally, based on the factors that were found, a conceptual model was developed that could provide guidance to entrepreneurs and investors during the commercialization trajectory. |
