| Abstract: | This MSc research assignment is performed at Bosch Thermotechniek, a production company in the heating and hot water industry, operating worldwide. Bosch Thermotechniek holds multiple dedicated production lines for the assembly of boilers. The existing production lines involve a lot of manual labour and consequently the personnel costs comprise 30% of the value-added costs of the production and logistics department. Therefore, the company seeks ways to reduce costs and/or improve productivity. We developed a line balancing application to improve the line balance of the production lines. This application is also capable of determining the effects of changes on the cycle time. Multiple proposals to improve the production line are evaluated for their impact on the costs, cycle time and ergonomics. |
