Abstract: | The present research aimed at validating the Brief Questionnaire on Occupational Sitting (BQOS) developed by Van de Lagemaat (2018). It is a self-report questionnaire which intends to measure average and domain-specific sitting time on regular days. A correlational longitudinal study was conducted to assess the feasibility, test-retest reliability, and the construct validity of the BQOS. Therefore, an ecological momentary assessment (EMA) form of the BQOS was created and used as a validation tool. Whereas the original one intends to measure average sitting times on a regular day, the EMA form measured daily sitting times. The sample consisted of 30 full-time students who participated in the study over the course of one week. According to the psychometric assessment, the BQOS demonstrates appropriate psychometric properties. However, it appears that full-time students have a large within-subject sitting time variability so that it cannot be claimed to have measured average sitting time on a regular day. The BQOS might, therefore, be population restricted and can only be applied to low variability populations such as office workers. |
