Abstract: | The current study investigated how work engagement is experienced among teachers and how it relates to teachers’ mindfulness and conscientiousness. It was hypothesized that mindfulness mediates the relationship between conscientiousness and work engagement. The design of the current study was quantitative and cross-sectional. A mediation analysis was conducted which revealed that mindfulness did not mediate the relationship between conscientiousness and work engagement. Hence, the current research showed that mindfulness related differently to work engagement and conscientiousness than initially assumed. Future research is needed to clarify whether mindfulness is a mediator in this relationship or not. In agreement with past research, mindfulness was established as an important technique for promoting work engagement in teachers. |
