Abstract: | An analysis is performed of Galerkin methods for solving a one-dimensinal transport problem. In particular, a discontinuous Galerkin and continuous Petrov-Galerkin method are analyzed and compared. The methods both find a piecewise polynomial as a solution with polynomials of order k. For both methods it is shown that they are strongly A-stable. Furthermore, an error analysis is done in which convergence is shown in both step size and polynomial order. Finally, a numerical analysis is done to compare the results of the analysis to numerical results. |
