Abstract: | Inquiry learning is a specific type of active or engaged learning which is believed to lead to better conceptual understanding compared to direct instruction. Concept mapping is a tool that is often used to support meaningful learning. This study aims to find whether there is a difference in the learning outcomes when using CMs at the beginning - an approach that teachers frequently adopt - or at the beginning and at the end of the learning process. In addition, we assess the difference in quality between the first and second CM within the group that used CM twice, as well as the difference between the second CM and the CM from the group that uses this tool only once. Students were asked to participate in an inquiry based-learning environment. The results showed that no statistical differences in the learning outcomes and quality of concept maps were found. Keywords: Inquiry learning, concept maps, learning outcomes, quality. |
