Abstract: | Reducing the discrepancy between demand (patients requesting a bed) and supply (available beds) in general wards is crucial in order to offer care and work efficiently. The assignment of clinical departments to wards influences this discrepancy. We identify a research gap: no assignment model has been developed before that takes the distinction between single and shared rooms in wards into account and concentrates empty beds. However, both aspects are crucial when aiming to limit the discrepancy. We successfully present a first approach for assigning clinical departments to wards that takes the distinction between single and shared rooms into account and concentrates empty beds. In particular we consider a case study of Deventer Ziekenhuis (DZ). |
