Abstract:Patients with a borderline personality disorder often have difficulties recognizing and identifying their emotions. Therefore, researchers have developed the Sense-IT app. The Sense-IT app consists of a smartwatch that measures the heart rate, and an app on a smartphone that gives an overview of the heart rate. In this study it is investigated how the Sense-IT can best be integrated into the dialectical behavioral therapy, the treatment for borderline personality disorders at GGNet Scelta. This was done by interviewing six different therapists. The results show, among other things, that the therapists are very positive about the Sense-IT and see few reasons not to use it in therapy. Furthermore, the results show that the role of the therapists is primarily to engage in conversation with patients about the Sense-IT. Although the current study confirms that therapists would like to use the Sense-IT, there is still too little information to be able to implement the Sense-IT in the DBT. The data obtained is too global and it is not clear how the Sense-IT can exactly be used. It is not clear, for example, what the possible limitations of and objections to the Sense-IT are. For that reason, further research is needed how the Sense-IT should be used in the DBT treatment. This could be researched through focus groups or role play with therapists.
