Abstract: | A local US law enforcement conducted a special form of undercover operations within their own jails, called Perkins operations. The aim of this study is to advance a previous study on undercover interactions, by examining whether a relationship can be found between specific tactical attempts (made by the undercover officer) and the elicitation of information of investigate value on a specific topic (disclosed by the inmate). By researching whether some tactical attempts were used more or less often prior to the elicitation on high investigative value information on a specific topic. This study found that the strategic attempts to facilitate a discussion on critical issues between the undercover officer and the inmate (Evidence Stimulation) were only used prior to crime related topics of discussion. However, this study was of explorative nature, so the results should also be interpreted that way. |
