Abstract:This research is focused on a component of the x-ray devices from Malvern Panalytical, called a detector. There are three different detectors in production. The set-up of the supply chains for detectors was done by 'subcontracting'. Subcontracting is a method of managing the supply chains based on the idea of maintaining control over every process step in the supply chains. Keeping control through subcontracting is successful but leads to a very high operational management burden. To reduce the management burden, Malvern Panalytical is intrested in outsourcing parts of the supply chains. To make the choice for outsourcing, it is important to map all costs incurred for managing the supply chains. All these costs have been mapped according to the ABC method.
