Abstract:The research presented in this thesis is about the contribution of electronic public service implementation on the cross-border cooperation between Germany and the Netherlands in the Euregio-region. The explanatory research question is: To what extent does the implementation of electronic public services in municipalities contribute to cross-border cooperation in the Euregio-region? It is crucial to understand which factors hamper and support the implementation process and how the electronic public service development can contribute to the already existing cross-border cooperation between Germany and the Netherlands. The research design is a case study of the cross-border region Euregio. For this thesis, secondary data from policy or strategy papers as well as newly generated primary data from a survey are used to answer the central research question. The secondary data is analysed using the method of a realistic literature review, the data from the survey is analysed by descriptive analysis and statistical tests using the statistical software programme SPSS. The research topic is of scientific relevance as the field of cross-border cooperation is only marginally studied from a public administration point of view and electronic public services are on the rise in EU-countries.
