Abstract: | High schools in the Netherlands are trying to encourage adolescents to make healthier food choices by making their school canteens a healthy school canteen. The students, however, are not very encouraged to eat healthier and have had some concerns since the start of the healthy school canteen. By offering students an incentive for eating healthier and giving them the opportunity actively participate in the school canteen decisions the healthy school canteen can be more appealing to students. To make this possible a smartphone application prototype has been created and tested to see if a smartphone application could be the solution. The application has been tested on ten young adults and the results and feedback show that offering an incentive for healthy eating is an effective way to make healthy eating more appealing. All the other features of the application help with making sure the students feel autonomous over their food choices and their suggestions are heard. The application has only been tested on young adults that are no longer in high school, so to know for sure that the application also works for adolescents it needs to be tested with the end user in a school setting. |
