| Abstract: | Smart speakers are rising in popularity and offer many skills aimed at making the user’s life more convenient. But these devices are not perfect and still bear privacy and safety risks. In this study, the role of trust in the usage of smart speakers is investigated. Therefore, a survey was designed to collect information about the usage behaviour of users and non-users, as well as their trust towards smart speakers and trust in general. It was found that the trust towards smart speakers does have an effect on the usage behaviour of people. In fact, the more personal the commands for the devices are, the more relevant trust becomes. The findings of this study suggest an extension of the TAM and, finally, a recommendation to do further trust-related research towards smart technologies is given. |
